Ep. 61: Big Red

Josh and Emily did it! They've cured their poisoning, restored their HP, and are still experiencing an XP boost from last Sunday's mukbang livestream. Josh has been using his health to pursue more Pokémon Go adventures, Emily has been using hers to put the finishing touches on a VGM karaoke, and as always, they're bringing you some fantastic patron recommendations. Join your hosts as they contemplate installing edgy video games on teachers' computers, the nature of NES waveforms, crying live on the internet, and the unexpected directions of the Tamagotchi franchise. So hug a little longer, make it last a little longer, and enjoy some long-lasting freshness at the VGM Jukebox.

  1. Loving the Hoppip evolution line discussion. Jumpluff is actually my favourite Pokémon, and he was introduced in the game my track recommendation was from :)

  2. You guys sure like your Pokémon.

I really liked the Penguin Monogatari skit. And I LOVED that Diablo II track. I think it started off with a monoharp, which reminded me of U2's "Drowning Man" from their War album.

I also really liked the Undertale track. Like Josh, I liked how the strings and hi-fi sounds supported the 8-bit aesthetic.

  3. OH MY GOSH KEYGLYPH.....That VGMK you did is definitely my favorite you've done so far. I totally got the vulnerability vibe with the lyrics through the under-the-weather tone. And I really like the way you did the choruses and a few other parts doubled-up, and also how you ended by fading the music out and finishing the last line solo. I loved it.

  4. Poliesterties here.
I'd like to answer the questions you posed in the episode while playing my track recommendation. The only time and place Carl could play Diablo was after school in his Mom's classroom, though I can't remember the reasons why. He wasn't a jerk and did actually let me play. I only played for a bit and decided it would be best just to watch him because I knew I'd never be able to level a character to anything meaningful in the short opportunities I had. It ended up being more fun for me to watch, plus all the more delicious once Diablo II was released and I bought it for myself.
I'm so glad the track was appreciated.

    1. Oh, interesting! You're someone else who likes watching others play games. That's rarer that you might think.

  5. How has nobody yet realized yet that the next live-stream needs to be Emily playing Undertale and crying while Josh over-eats spaghetti in a mukbang (and maybe cries a little too)?

  6. Really liked Emily's vgm karaoke in this ep, it felt like the lyrics were meant to be part of that song!
