Ep. 98: The Sega Nintendo

Josh and Emily are in a whole new zone! They traverse this delicate landscape with some great listener-recommended tunes playing in their headphones (they must have some really long headphone cords). Join them as they recount days sifting through garbage, feeling like you are the video game character, and playing the Sega Nintendo. Plus, J&E discuss their experiences with the latest additions to their game libraries. Animite is still at the rest stop, but we're at the party with the most crushable dude. You're welcome to join us, so come on in!

  2. The whistle track is so damn catchy, and Animite is so damn likeable/funny. I have relistened to that stretch of the episode several times now. It just makes me inexplicably happy. There is so much plucky charm in the track and in Animite's adaptation to his rest stop environs.

  3. There is so much about this episode to love! MegaJay’s touching tale, Rob Nichol’s arcade witchcraft, Animite’s hilarious message from the rest stop, and Emily’s excitement about No Man’s Sky.

Speaking of which, hey Emily! I had forgotten about your description of amnesia as being a way to gamify the player’s unfamiliarity with their surroundings, and consequently totally become their character. That is such a compelling description! I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes games enveloping, and this gives me more to ponder. How do you view No Man’s Sky now that you’ve had a year to process?

Chikako Kometani is not a guy.
