Ep. 19: Discussion Zone

This week Josh and Emily have a lot of things to discuss with the patrons. Would it be desirable for the podcast to move into a true weekly format? Might the loyal contributors bring more listeners into the fold? And how does a special FAQ-style Bonus Room episode of patron-submitted questions sound? Ponder these possibilities over the varied selections of chill and funky jams found inside the Discussion Zone, then voice your opinions in the comments section!

  1. Thanks for playing another one of my tracks! I try to submit a variety of good tracks from many diverse and different games that I have played. I look forward to hearing the next one! Also I love hearing new tracks I have never heard before from other patrons. Cheers

  2. Utopianemo here. I hope people have been responding more on the social media outlets. I had listened to the podcast early in the day on the 1st, and had intended to write a really discouraging post about how you guys should stop making the show, and then call out April Fools. But I just couldn't; it was too mean. Anyway, it kind of took the wind out of my sales in terms of commenting on the discussion topics.

But here we are. I am totally for you guys merging the underworld and overworld episodes. I'm also all for the show being the same-ish length. I've also pitched the show to a bunch of people and I will request tracks with the mighty ferocity of a behemoth and an isfrit in the passionate throes of hot call-spell violence. Have a nice day.

    1. Naka-kun, I am so glad you did not do that, as I am perpetually unaware of calendar dates and am also more gullible than the average person. I would have been shocked and confused, but I still might have bought it!

I do think traffic is being split a few ways now that we have other publishing and discussion venues, but I really hope the blog continues to be a hotbed of conversation.

    2. I could see the payoff on that prank going badly. Alas, I have a few decades worth of impishness with which I have to contend. My senior year of high school, I "collected" campus items and stored them in my locker, just because. It started out with a hall pass or two, then graduated to wet floor signs and chemistry aprons....by the end of the year, I had removed all the school bells from the top floor and ripped an exit sign out of the ceiling(in my defense, somebody else had already pulled the exit sign loose; I just finished the job). I even took my Biology teacher's rubber mallet and sent him a joke ransom note, complete with letters cut out of a newspaper.

I lived in Iceland for a little over a year. During part of that time, I worked the breakfast shift as a busboy at the NATO base officer's club. One of the chefs in particular was a little prankish, at my expense(as a completely academic bit of trivia, there is a contingent of Icelandic chefs who speak English with an Australian accent. Apparently, Australian cooking schools were held in high regard by Icelanders in the mid-90's).

Anyhoo, I decided to pay my prankish friend back. On my last day, I made a packet of fake(but very convincing) blood out of Wyler's fruit punch mix and ketchup. After my shift was over, I was milling about in my server's tux in the kitchen. I walked over to the knives and asked, "Are these pretty sharp?" The smart-alecky chef responded, "Why don't you try it and find out?"

Just the answer I was hoping for. I turned around and grabbed a knife, and fake-stabbed myself in the neck. The chefs screamed for Jesus as blood spurted halfway across the kitchen. And then I started laughing. I ruined my outfit, but the look on their faces was totally worth it....as was the knowledge that the cauldron of soup they were preparing for dinner that day would end up being just a little sweeter, and a little pinker.

  3. I like hearing selections from patrons and hosts - merging the bar with the dungeon is not a bad idea. I'd also like to hear your responses to patron-submitted questions, although maybe this could be a regular segment rather than its own episode. Regarding length, I'd listen for as long as you'd be willing to record - I'm always hungry for high quality content. Keep up the great work.

    And more Burger Time Time.

Just so I can hear the phrase Burger Time Time.

  5. Great episode, people!

I am 100% behind doing a weekly merged podcast. I look forward to the bar & the dungeon each for different reasons, but I think it would be really cool to bring the two together. Plus it leaves all kinds of opportunity for you to cook up clever "warp zone" scenarioes to travel between the two!
