  1. Consider me relaxed. I'd make a "shave and a hair cut, 8 bits" joke here, but I don't think they actually do hair cuts at spas.

Besaid Island and Sunken Ship are two of my all time favorite relaxation jams. Good stuff.

    5. I use Doggcatcher, which is usually pretty good for catching stuff. In the meantime it has shown up and I have dld it :)

The music on this episode is realllllly good. Do you guys/would you guys have a MP3 download of just the music? I could see myself listening to it over and over again (Not that I don't like your guy's talking, I really do!)

    6. Hi Kenny! I will definitely make a tune-only mixtape of Emily's Special Spa Tape in the future -- I just can't promise you when. But thanks for the request, and be on the lookout for it!

  3. Hey all! loved the spa episode. So much goodness! I know the narrative of the episode precluded reading the testimonials; have you considered posting them here?

    1. We received a number of these recommendations without testimonials, just indications that they were for the spa-themed episode. However, we highly encourage anybody to post their thoughts on these tracks all up on this page!

    2. Hi Nathan! As Josh said, a bunch of the recommendations came without testimonials -- but I'm about to post the text from the ones that did. Get ready!

  4. Game: Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
    Track: Hiiragi Psychotherapy
    Patron: Mega Matt

This track is perfect for the VGM Spa. I'm just going to assume that there was an error in the translation and the track title is actually Hiiragi Aromatherapy.

  5. Game: Final Fantasy II (SPS version)
    Track: Revivification
    Patron: @Slaptheham

This track is appropriately titled "Revival", it's a bit of a "shorty" but the melody and soft bells give you a feeling of safety and healing. It has a holiday music sound as well.

  6. Game: Final Fantasy X
    Track: Besaid Island
    Patron: Hollow

First off I think you should mention in your next episode whether or not there is a limit to submitting suggestions, because after I heard "spa music" I got excited and I think I might have many to suggest :D I noticed that most of the music you've played is older music, so I'm not sure if this track will quality. Some parts can get busy but I would say most of the track is pretty relaxing. If you're not aware, this track is the theme for an island in the game. FFX was a just a huge step forward in terms of scope and graphics, and although the addition of voice acting had somewhat lukewarm reception, I personally liked it.

  7. Game: Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future
    Track: Aquamarine Bay
    Patron: Nathan AKA Utopia Nemo

SPA MUSIC!! Few people know that this soundtrack was composed by VGM legend Tim Follin. This game is so phenomenal; it played like a new age Tomb Raider. This music is to the first level, and it is so relaxing and exultantly beautiful. I spent so many hours just swimming around this stage, jumping and flipping and talking to whales and eating fish.....just like I do in every day life.

In all seriousness, this was one heck of a beautiful game, and Tim Follin's soundtrack matched it perfectly. Enjoy!

  8. Game: Fate/Stay Night
    Track: Ever-Present Feeling
    Patron: Jonathan "Leeviathan" Lee

This time, I'll go with a less typical genre of video game: a visual novel. Since gameplay is so minimal, music becomes even more of a crucial dimension to the playing experience.

Fate/Stay Night is a wonderfully deconstructive fiction with plenty of magical shenanigans and lots of artistic license, but at its heart is an attempt to answer the question "What does it take to be a hero?" I find a lot of positive nihilism and assertion of ideals to be derived from the branching stories within.

I really wanted to suggest one of the more fast-paced, badass action themes, but tracks like "Ever-present Feeling" were more striking to me. This usually played during times of quiet reminiscence, but when it snuck in during moments of powerful affirmation or great sacrifice, it was like a sucker-punch. I'm going to sound terribly sentimental, but when music like this accentuated the atmosphere and dialogue in certain scenes, I'd get choked up.
