Ep. 06: Feel the Magic

Josh and Emily made it out of last week's Special Stage in one piece and are back for their regular jukebox gathering. The selections start off with some seasonally-appropriate spookiness but quickly digress into the ethereal, the peppy, the funky, and the rock oboe-y. One way or another, these tracks will have you feeling the magic deep in your bowels -- whether you have an MP meter or not.

  1. Another fine episode. Keep up the good work! Last Bible 3 has so many great tracks. My personal favorites are Hometown, Dragon's Fang, Harry's Theme, Felest Tower, Underworld Town, and Val Ship, which is especially rad.

    1. From what I can tell, LB3 looks like it was Hiroyuki Yanada's last vgm soundtrack. I wonder if they went on to compose music elsewhere.

    2. Actually, it looks like he composed some music for Jack Bros, another Megami Tensei game for the Virtual Boy, later on that year. This song was actually played on a previous episode of vgm jukebox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5eNfJk3qSU&list=PL93zS7e4rwWcoe9_3LnMqto9Q3YJpyft_&index=20

    4. Jack Bros. was a Megami Tensei game too?!

Okay, seriously, Josh and I might have to consider renaming this podcast "The Megami Tensei Moment" or something. That franchise just keeps popping up everywhere!

  2. Forgot to mention that I enjoyed the bit on sound effects overpowering a game's soundtrack. I usually try to go back and play the actual game if I discover some good tracks and I'm often disappointed when I can barely hear the music over the sound effects.

  3. I was once known as AndyBlankJones, but now I am Quality, as dubbed by Josh. I haven't heard from Killer Instinct since I played KI: Gold. I didn't have much context going into that game, so I reached the end and had no idea how to beat it. I learned much later what I needed to do, but know that I never could have done it because I didn't know any finishing moves. Hearing that track reminded me of how frustrated I was when I eventually died in the final fight.

    1. Also, I rented it, so I never got the chance to dedicate a lot of time to figure it out. And by "much later," I mean about a decade later. As you can see, I was at a total loss.

  4. Great episode and Great Music selection everyone! Everyone has phenomenal taste without question! Hooray for more Virtual Boy music! I actually own Teleroboxer and really want to beat it by the end of the year, but man it is hard! I loved the Illusion series on the Genesis. Castle of Illusion is one of my all time favorite platformers. Butt Bump 4 lyfe!
